He makes me feel warm. He makes me feel safe.
He always has, right from the beginning. Paradox, that. We first lookedeach other in the eye on a snowy Canadian road, in the middle of winter, after he had just unsheathed six deadly claws and almost killed a man.
He covers me like a blanket, protecting, warming, comforting.
"How come you know so much about stars, Logan?"
"Don't know. I don't remember."
"I'm so glad you're back."
"Me too."
"I missed you."
"Me too."
"You couldn't, um, elaborate on that?"
"Wrap yourself in that blanket. The nights get cold, even in Summer."
"Phoenix. Those stars right over there. Phoenix was…Marie?"
"Sorry. Sorry. Never mind."
"Oh no. You're gonna tell me what's bothering you. Now."
"Nothing."
"I can smell something's bothering you."
"Nothing. Phoenix just stirred… something."
"Are you talking about Jean?"
"What if I am?"
"Hmph. Depends what you're talking about."
"Do you still love her?"
"Me? Jean?"
"Yeah, well, Logan, it's not as if the thought was that far fetched, really."
"Marie."
"I mean, she's touchable, and maybe she would consider…"
"Marie."
"What?"
"I, uh…shit. I, I love you, Marie."
"Oh. Oh."
"Yeah."
"I, uh…wow. That's just…I don't know what to say. I…"
"Then don't speak."
"Logan, what - oh! Hmm…"
"Virgo. The virgin. Heh."
"You know, when I came out here I didn't really plan on, you know…"
"What?"
"Hey!"
"Ouch! What was that for?"
"Grinning so smugly, mister."
"What didn't you really plan on, Marie?"
"Logan…"
"Heh."
"Fine. Fine. I didn't really plan on, um, having sex right here, ina public place. It was kinda romantic though. There."
"Kinda? *Kinda* romantic?"
"OK. Really, really romantic. You couldn't have planned it better… Logan?"
"…"
"Logan?...Oh! You *did* plan this, didn't you?"
"Heh."
"Hey!"
"Ouch!"
"Drago. The dragon. What?"
"Nothing. Nothing."
"Cold?"
"No. Just a little shiver."
"What's it, Marie?"
"Really, it's not important. It's stupid. I just…I used to be afraidof dragons. My brothers would tell me when I was bad, that they'd takeme down to the basement and feed me to the dragon that ate little girls. They locked me in the cellar once and…I was scared."
"Locked you?"
"For three hours."
"Bastards."
"No, no, it's alright, just – no more dragons, OK?"
"I'll be here to protect you, baby. But, OK. No more dragons."
"Aw. My knight in shining armour."
"Coma Berenices. Bernice's lock of hair."
"You know, I've been thinking about dying my white streak. What do youthink?"
"Don't. I like it."
"Really?"
"Really. In fact, I like everything about you."
"Flatterer."
"It's true. Plus, you're my girl, so it's my duty to compliment you."
"Are you really sure about this?"
"Marie, you look beautiful. Especially in the moonlight. Especiallywrapped in only my shirt."
"No, I mean us…my being your girl?"
"Never been more sure about anything."
"Good. `Cause I'm not letting you go any time soon."
"Ursa Major. The Greater Bear. Right there."
"Is there a star called Wolverine too?"
"Tease."
"I'm not. You deserve a place up there."
"That's sweet, darling, but I don't think so. Whoever's up there surelydoesn't want me in heaven with him."
"If they can have any random bear, they'll have you too."
"Hmm. There. Hercules. The hero."
"See? That'd be you."
"Tease."
"Not at all, sugar. Not at all."
"Ara. The altar. Uh, Marie?"
"Hmm?"
"See it?"
"What?"
"The stars. They're called the altar."
"Yes, sir, I heard you the first time. Of course, the impression ofme dozing off a little because I was wrapped up so snuggly and comfy againstyour chest isn't entirely wrong, but…"
"Marie."
"Yes, sugar?"
"I was saying the altar."
"Sorry, Logan, but I'm a little lost here, what…Oh. Oh my God. Oh myGod, Logan, that's…that's the most beautiful ring I've ever seen, that…oh,Logan!"
"Yeah, uh, what I really wanted to say was…marry me, Marie. Please."
"Oh, I, sorry, I'm, I'm…"
"Don't cry. Don't. I'll just put it away. Marie, please don't cry, Ishouldn't…"
"No, no…I mean yes. Oh yes, I do. I will. Logan, I love you so much."
"Yes? Yes? You sure?"
"Yeah."
"Heh."
"Hey!"
"Ouch!"
He makes me feel warm, and safe. He covers me like a blanket. Protecting, warming, comforting. This night, under the stars, is just the beginning; the first in a row of long, happy nights, in whichwe lie curled around each other, talking, loving, feeling. And while we curl up in our little cocoon, heaven covers us with a blanketof stars, and wraps us up tightly in happiness.
